Before joining Macquarie, Sean held the position of Operations Manager for a Western Australian vertically integrated cropping and livestock company. Sean is now based in Albury NSW and is the Head of the Lawson Grains business in Australia and key member of Macquarie’s team of asset management professionals, currently Sean oversees ~115 staff – comprised of head office, farm managers and on-farm operational staff (both permanent and casual).
In building the Lawson Grains cropping platform Sean and his team undertook diligence on over 800,000 hectares of arable land in Australia and successfully completed 27 separate farm acquisitions – combining these into 9 commercial-scale aggregations that now form one of Australia’s largest broadacre farming businesses. In his case study, Sean will explain the use of technology to implement precision agriculture at Lawson Grains, including deployment of GPS guidance steering, swatch control, controlled farming traffic, zero tillage and stubble retention and variable application of inputs.
